Dance Festival

After doing some volunteer work and knowing the secretary at the Chamber of Commerce pretty well (David home taught her) David agreed to be the Volunteer in charge of Volunteers for the Idaho International Dance Festival. We figured it would be super easy because of the service program on campus. Then it hit us that school was out at that point.Oops. That was April. We had some meetings almost every week to attend which we didn't do as faithfully as others because it ended up being a crazier summer then expected.

So we have some WONDERFUL friends who helped us out a ton and are STILL our FRIENDS even though we pestered then A TON about volunteering. We are grateful to Melanie who rounded up some of her friends to usher for the Idaho Falls performance( we were panicking for a while). Not everything worked out the way we or the chamber would have liked it to but it all worked out in the end anyway. David and I enjoyed being able to see so many performances for free.
This is David and I with our official badges after the last performance.

The Opening ceremonies was exciting because it was the beginning of everything. David and I spent a good part of that day knocking on apartment doors desperately looking for volunteers.

Monday night was the big parade and street festival. We ended up passing out all the fliers before the show and had too many volunteers for the parade and then could never find then when we needed them later. Oh well. It was a windy night and ended up trying to protect the float from the rain/wind. At one point I was sitting on the float sprawled out trying to keep it from blowing away and then it started to rain only for about 5 minutes but still that was long enough for me out in the open.
Friday and Saturday night were the Gala performances in the Hart auditorium. We had free tickets for being on the committee and invited David's parents to come up and watch the show.

Germany did this dance and always explained something about a rooster but we never saw the rooster until the last night. The dance made a lot more sense then.
Japan was one of our favorite countries! They were just so into their performance and really did well with an audience. Their drums were kind of noisy though and this was our nieces face after the performance.

Russia was pretty cool, way cool hats though. The Romanians were awesome too! The girls picked up the boys who were skinny but still way taller than David and they held them for like a whole minute!!! It was impressive!
After the performance there was a big dance party on the floor. We encouraged our Nephew to go down and dance (his sister was asleep at this point). He was very stiff as he danced and twirled around with this girl. Then the dancer was ready to be done (it had been a while!) but Brogan wouldn't let go , in fact he kept grabbing her hands! So she started to clap like it was over and then he got the clue that the dance was over. It was pretty cute to watch.
